Alternative History of Medicine

Author:
Plinio Prioreschi, MD, PhD - Department of Pharmacology, Creighton University

Abstract:
In the wake of Postmodernism and Alternative Medicine, a new history of medicine has developed with the same disregard for objective evidence shown by Alternative Medicine. This paper refers to this new history of medicine as Alternative History of Medicine. Traits common to Alternative Medicine and Alternative History of Medicine include: conformism, insufficient knowledge, conceit, pseudo-objectivism, disregard of evidence, and the predominance of non-physicians among supporters and practitioners. A major reason for the development of these "alternatives" is the deterioration of the intellectual standards of schools, including medical schools.
